This month I created materials in Maya, from UVing objects to creating textures in Photoshop. As well as adding bump and specular maps for how light would interact. I also divided objects into separate textures, like metal and rust. Batch Render was used, to negate going through materials and hiding aspects of them. I especially enjoyed exploring Nuke and using Nodes to tweak my Renders. Being able to drastically alter the look of a scene without changing any scene settings in Maya is incredibly helpful, and something I am going to explore further.
Changing the colors and intensity of lights is something that I experimented with a bit on my own. I had fun trying to create scenes that are visually pleasing, but not entirely realistic. Such as pushing the blue hues in the Key and Dome light more than a normal night would have. As well as giving the Fill light a gold glow to match the metal I had created with the Grade node. I wanted the colors to be vivid and complement each other.
